Presentation of Herzeg-Bosnia

The Croatian Republic of Herzeg-Bosna was formed in parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina held by the Croatian Defense Council (Hrvatsko Vijece Obrane, Bosnian Croats Army), as a temporary government in Bosnia and Herzegovina. By the Washington Agreements signed in March 1994, Herzeg-Bosnia became a part of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina by joining with territories held by Bosnian Muslims.

Flag of Herzeg-Bosnia

The flag of Herzeg-Bosnia is the Croatian red, white and blue horizontal tricolor, with the coat of arms of Herzeg-Bosnia in the middle.

The Flags of Aspirant Peoples chart [eba94ó shows under No. 39 the flag of "Hrvatska Hercegovina-Bosna" (Croatian state of "Herceg-Bosna"), as the Croatian flag with the checky shield in the middle. While popular in the 1990s in Croatia and probably used in Herzeg-Bosnia, too, this flag is not the flag of Herzeg-Bosnia.

The coat of arms of Herzeg-Bosna is a red-silver checky 5x5 field in a German-shaped shield, bordered in gold. At the top there is a gold wattle on silver. The wattle, or triple wattle (Croatian, troplet), is a very frequent motive in Croatian handcraft and art, especially in the Middle Ages, therfore an unmistakable symbol of Croatians.
