Presentation of Rendeux

The municipality of Rendeux (2,274 inhabitants on 1 January 2007; 6,883 hectares) is located on the river Ourthe, between La Roche-en-Ardenne and Hotton. The municipality of Rendeux is made since 1976 of the former municipalities of Rendeux Beffe, Hodister and Marcourt.

Rendeux is watered by the river Ourthe and its affluents; it is the only municipality of Belgium where the banks of the Ourthe have not been revamped. The elevation of Rendeux ranges between 190 m (the Ourthe in Hamoul) and 550 m (in the place called Tirolle).
Rendeux is mostly a rural municipality, which includes more than 20 villages: Beffe, Magoster and Trinal (Beffe); Hodister, Gênes, Warisy, Jupille, Quatre-Bras-de-Gênes, Racelle, Vecpré and La Boverie (Hodister); Marcourt, Marcouray, Devantave and Laidprangeleux (Marcourt); Rendeux-Haut, Rendeux-Bas, Ronzon, Chéoux, Waharday, Nohaipré, Hamoul and Bardonwez (Rendeux).
In the valley of Ourthe, the villages and farms are scattered along the regional road 888 linking La Roche-en-Ardenne and Marche-en-Famenne. Elsewhere, the villages are often located along the rivers or on the watersheds.
Rendeux is also a renowned vacation place: the municipality includes 868 main homes but 895 second homes, as well as several hotel-restaurants, self-catering cottages and camping places.

Municipal flag of Rendeux

The municipal flag of Rendeux is horizontally divided blue-white-blue, the white stripe being embattled with three pieces.
According to Armoiries communales en Belgique. Communes wallonnes, bruxelloises et germanophones, the flag was adopted by the Municipal Council on 17 March 1999 and confirmed by the Executive of the French Community on 30 April 1999.
The embattled stripe might recall the former castle of Rendeux.
