About the Flag of Canavieiras

From www.ondax.net/canavieiras/orgaos/band/band.htm:

The five green pales symbolize that the name Canavieiras originated from the cane fields [canaviais] that long ago belonged to the Vieira family, which was important in the earliest period of the city. The red bend charged with three scallop shells [vieiras] of silver symbolizes the Vieiras with elements of their family arms, and also recalls the patron saint of the city, St. Bonaventure, through the red color of the bend. The six white (silver) stripes represent our white sand beaches, silvery on moonlit nights. The flag of Canavieiras is the result of a competition sponsored by the local Lions Club, in 1967, during the administration of João Perelo de Matos, of which Jorge Silva Souza was the winner.
