The flag of Imperatriz was conceived by the painter Etevaldo Moreno de
Araújo. It follows the proportions of the Brazilian flag and is divided
into three horizontal stripes, the upper yellow, the lower green, and the
middle white. On the center, there is a blue triangle with a yellow crown.
The triangle represents the three living forces of the community:
agriculture and ranching; commerce and industry; education and culture. The
crown symbolizes the name, which means "empress." Of the colors, yellow
signifies the wealth of the land, principally the rice crop; white, peace,
harmony, and concord; and green, the jungles of the municipality.
The proportions are 7:10, the proportions of the national flag.
