Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia (Canada)

The Halifax Regional Municipality came into existence on April 1, 1996 as a result of the amalgamation of the cities of Halifax and Dartmouth, the Town of Bedford and Halifax County Municipality.

The arms were granted on 15 July 1999. The flag is a banner of arms, blue with a yellow saltire and a white disk in the center. In each arm of the cross is a short arrow pointing from the center. Yellow ships are on the hoist and fly side of the flag, with a bird in the center.

The provisional flag was white with the name of the city name in yellow over a wavy line and "Regional Municipality" in blue.

I took a picture on December 25 2004, over five years after the banner of arms was granted. Both this flag and the banner of arms were then flying near city hall, which proves it was not a provisional flag.

The flag of the City of Halifax was a banner of its arms. The flag was adopted on July 1, 1992 when the city received it's arms.

Dartmouth and Halifax no longer exist as separate entities - they (plus Bedford and Halifax county) were rolled into one as the HRM (Halifax Regional Municipality) over a year ago. Last I heard (last fall) they were still arguing if they needed a flag or not.
