The previous flags included an "L" for Leopoldville and not a "K".

A variant for the municipal flag for the capital city of Kinshasa. It
was originally spelled 'Kinchassa' on an 1800s Belgian Congo (French language)
map (along with a neighboring village, Kintamo). It was originally named
Léopoldville, to honor Belgium's then-ruling King Léopold II, who colonized
The Congo.
I've seen the flag for Kinshasa designed in *2* ways:
(1) with the stars on sides of an initial K, or
(2) with the initial K positioned near hoist, with the stars arranged
vertically to its right [which was the way I saw it years ago in a late
1960s flag book at a library in Wiscasset, ME USA].
NOTE: The white wave design & the yellow stars on current flags
are of simple design. Those on the 2 earlier (1925, 1960) designs were
different looking (as well as a altogether different [fancier looking]
initial letter).

Same as the current version, but with an "L" instead of a "K".
