Graben Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, a roe forcene Or, in dexter base a spade's blade Argent, in sinister chief a fleur-de-lis Or.
Meaning:
The spade is a local symbol and canting, as it is referring to digging (German: graben). The name is known since the 11th century and actually referring to a moat (German: Graben), perhaps from times of the Roman Empire. The spade is known from local seals since 1810. The authorities agreed to introduce the spade in the arms, but in the tinctures red and green, in order to stress the close relationships to the city of Augsburg. The result was a red pale in a green shield, charged with a spade Argent. Graben is the home town of the Fugger kin. In the 15th century the kin was split into the branches Fugger vom Reh ( of the roe) and Fugger von der Lilie (of the fleur-de-lis). Roe, fleur-de-lis and tinctures are taken from the arms of the family.
