It is a yellow - red - yellow vertical triband with ratio 1:3:1. The coat of arms is in the central stripe and shifted to the top.

Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In golden (=yellow) field is a blue ash tree, growing out of a red, embattled base, which is superimposed by three golden (=yellow) balls.
Meaning:
According to source the ash tree is canting. The oldest form of the municipality's name is Ascasberg (engl.: mountain of ash trees). The balls are taken from the arms of the von Davensberg family.The blue colour of the ash is representing the former municipality of Herbern.

Former Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In golden (=yellow) field is a green ash tree, growing out of a red, embattled base, which is superimposed by three golden (=yellow) balls. It is the nearly the same like the current coat of arms, just the balls in the old coat of arms are a bit more filligree and the colour of the ash tree was different.

The former banner was approved on 15 March 1962 by minister of interior of Northrhine-Westphalia.
