The shield is parted per pall reverse, above right a silver branch of oak with three leaves and two acorns in a red field; above left a blue chalice in a silver field; beneath a silver watermill's wheel in a blue field.
Meaning:
The branch is referring to local oak groves. The chalice to a glas kiln, which had been here since the 16th century. The wheel is reminding on three former watermills in the municipality.

Gerterode had 358 inhabitants in 2015 and covers 6.3 km². The municipality was first mentioned in 1266.
