Sasbach on Kaiserstuhl Coat of Arms

Shield Sable, a lion rampant double queued Or.
Meaning:
Since the 14th century Sasbach had been an appendix of Linburg Castle. Castle and lordship became as Austrian fiefdom to the Counts of Tübingen in 1457 and later to the Barons Girardi of Kastell. An oval seal from 1811 displayed, like later seals, a gonfanon and a sinister facing lion. The gonfanon was representing the Counts of TübingenTübingen, the lion the Barons Girardi of Kastell, whose family arms had two black quarters displaying a golden lion. This pattern was also carved on boundary stones of the 18th century.
