Description of flag:
The ratio is 3:5. It is a red over white over red triband with ratio 1:2:1. The coat of arms is in the middle of the white stripe.

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. Above in a silver (=white) field is a red, statant lion, crowned, armed and tongued blue. Below in a blue field is a silver (=white) wavy fess superimposed by three reed maces in natural colour ordered horizontally.
Meaning:
The lion is symbolizing the counts of Berg, the former rulers. According to Ralf Hartemink the lower part is canting symbolizing swamps or marshes.

The flag was approved by the local county director (German: Oberkreisdirektor) on 28 June 1995. The coat of arms was approved by Oberspräsident of Prussian Rhineprovince on 14 August 1937.
