Coat of Arms

Shield Or with base embowed Vert, issuant from base an oak Or with three acorns and 16 leaves, in front of the tree a lion passant Azure, armed and tongued Gules, in base a wolf trap Argent.
Meaning:
Wedemark had been the name of a shire, meaning something like "groves marsh". It became name giver of the current municipality, when 16 municipalities merged in 1964. Their number has increased to 17 since 2011.
The mount (base embowed) is symbolising the Breling Mountains, a landscape protection area. The oak is representing the local oak groves. It is somehow canting, as "Wede" means "grove". The 16 leaves are representing the municipalities forming Wedemark. The acorns are representing the former comprehensive municipalities of Bissendorf, Mellendorf and Elze. The lion is reminding on the Welfen Dukes of Lüneburg, former rulers for many centuries. Finally the wolf trap is symbolising that the current municipality belonged to the former Burgdorf County.
