Description of coat of arms:
The shield is parted per bend sinister undy, above right Or a horsshoe Sable, beneath left Sable hammer and mallet Or.
Meaning:
The bend undy is representing Wilkenbach creek, the border to nearby Osnabrück city. The horseshoe is punning, as the commune's name is derived from Old Lower German word "Hers" (= horse). The municipality nowadays still is a centre of equitation. Hammer and mallet are alluding to former Augusta ore mine of Ohrbeck, founded in 1819.
