The Kreis Plön / Plön county has an area of 1.082,57 km², with a population of 135.000.
It consists of 86 municipalities: 3 cities, 7 independent municipalities / amtsfreie Gemeinden, and 7 Ämter* with altogether 76 municipalities.
An "Amt" is a combination of several cities and municipalities within an administrative community, a subdivision of a county.

Description of flag:
The flag's ratio is 5:8. It is a white flag, bordered by a blue stripe at the top and a red one at the bottom. The ratio of the stripes is estimated 2:5:2. In the centre of the flag is the county's coat of arms.

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess by a silver(=white) wavy line. On the base is a silver(=white) fish in a blue field, facing the dexter side. On dexter chief is a silver(=white) leaf of an oak, on the center chief is a silver(=white) nettle-leaf, on the sinister chief is a silver(=white) ear of grain, all in a red field.

Origin/meaning:
The arms were granted on November 22, 1948.
The nettle-leaf is taken from the coat of arms of the counts of Schaumburg-Holstein, as the district is in the former Duchy of Holstein. The many forests and the importance of agriculture are symbolised by the leaf and ear. The lower part symbolizes the many lakes as well as the Baltic Sea coast and the importance of fishery.
