Description of flag:
It is a vertical bicolour. The coat of arms is shifted to the bottom that way that the chief and the borderline between both stripes form one line.

Description of coat of arms:
In a black shield is a silver (= white) bag (German: Sack, diminishment: Säckel). The shield has a red chief.
Meaning:
Säckingen was founded around 1250 and the oldest from the same time displayed the local patron saint, St. Fridolin, as a pilgrim with baton and bag. This pattern remained in use until the late 16th century. After 1806, when the city became a part of Baden, the bag alone was used in the arms. The colours changed widely during the centuries. The present colours are based on the 17th century pattern.
