Lloyd's Book of House Flags and Funnels (1912) shows the house flag of the company (#37, p. 38), based in Hamburg. Drawing confirmed - minus the serifs, but that is debatable

I am just wondering: How significant are the variations in font when dealing with lettered house flags of shipping companies. We already know many examples of real flags not using the same font as the official logotype of the company, therefore questioning the accuracy of old flag books or shares might be quite virtual. I guess that the same question might be raised for dots after the letters. We also know that there was a trend (not completely dead) to copy what was available on earlier sources without more check (which, to a certain extent, was caused by the difficulty to retrieve information at that time.

Whether the Massary cigarette cards' album and Lloyd's are independent sources or not, God only knows (and, like some would say in French, he could not care less :-)
I tend to consider Lloyd's as the mother of the house flag charts, but this might not be true. As pointed out by Ron Lahav and others, a lot of information must be sleeping in public libraries. Just consider all the material extracted by Dominique Cureau from the library of the Chamber of Commerce of Marseilles, and try to figure out that similar treasures might exist in Liverpool, Hamburg etc.

Lloyd's Book of House Flags and Funnels (1912) shows the house flag of the company (#37, p. 38), based in Hamburg, as subsequently shown by Wedge, but with some differences:
- the nine stripes are of equal width;
- the "F" is placed in an oval;
- the "F" is seriffed.
It seems that Lloyd's was the main source of information for Wedge. All the house flags I have hitherto found in the FOTW website "as shown by Wedge" are also shown in Lloyd's. Of course, the size of the sample is too small to conclude since I have browsed only the first two pages of Lloyd's.

The title of the book "D. Fuhrmann, Nissle & Günther Nflg. ("Nachfolger", "Successors"), 1840-1965", published in 1965, seems to indicate that this venerable company was founded in 1840. The company is still registered as a container operator in Bremerhaven.
