Symbols of Villamartín

The (unofficial) flag of Villamartín is horizontally divided blue-white-green with the municipal coat of arms in its centre.

The coat of arms of Villamartín is prescribed by Decree No. 2,860, adopted on 13 September 1974 by the Spanish Government and published on 9 October 1974 in the Spanish official gazette, No. 242, p. 20,515 (text). This was confirmed by a Decree adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The "rehabilitated", traditional coat of arms, validated by the Royal Academy of History, is described as follows:

Coat of arms: Gules a tower or masoned sable port and windows azure. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown open.

There are two main explanations given for the castle. The hypothesis most supported by research and bibliography says that the tower or castle of Matrera is represented, an excellent fortress that watched the whole plain of the Guadalete, the vanguard of the so-called Morisco Stripe, which protected the town of Seville from the Nasrid raids operating from Zahara de la Sierra, Aznalmara and Cardela.
