Presentation of Santa Bárbara de Casa

The municipality of Santa Bárbara de Casa (1,133 inhabitants in 2015; 14,700 ha; municipal website) is located 80 km north-west of Huelva, on the border with Portugal.

Santa Bárbara de Casa was already settled in the Copper Age (4th-3rd millennium BC), as evidenced by the settlement and necropolis of La Zarzita; the artefacts excavated there are kept in the Huelva Provincial Museum.
The modern village emerged in the beginning of the 16th century via the resettlement of the hamlets of Los Palacios, La Fuentecubierta, and El Hornillo, located around a chapel dedicated to St. Barbara and close to brook Casa.
