The former Postal Ensign was a national flag with the coat-of-arms replaced by two large letters 'C' and 'M' – for Correos Marítimos, literally "maritime mail" – in blue in the yellow stripe.

The special ensign for Postal Ships, called Correos Marítimos was the national flag, with blue letters 'C' and 'M' 1/4 the height high and 1/6 the height wide, separated by a distance of 1/6 the height, in the center of the ensign.
