Flag of Val-de-Marne

The flag of Val-de-Marne is white with the department's logo in blue. In 2015, General Councils were renamed to Departmental Councils. Accordingly the words "Conseil général" were replaced by the words "Le Département".

Although this flag can still be seen in use, in September 2018, the Departmental Council modified its logo (Graphic Charter). The motto “Département utile†(useful department) was added to protest against the project to suppress the departments of Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne.
A cyan blue flag with the logo in white (photo) has been seen in demonstrations.

Flag of the former General Council of Val-de-Marne - Image by Olivier Touzeau, 16 May 2019

The flag of the former General Council of Val-de-Marne was blue with the logo of the department adopted in 2006.

The logo was revamped after "an analysis of the visual environment and a survey of the perception of the former logo by the inhabitants of the department". This thorough study yielded three "invariants":
- the "VM" pictogram, symbolizing both the initials of the department's name and the confluency of rivers Seine and Marne (which is not situated in the neighbouring department of Seine-et-Marne!), placed in a blue cyan cartouche with a very narrow framing. The contrast between the curves of "VM" and the straight frame symbolizes the great diversity of the department and the commitment of public service.
- cyan blue as an identity colour, representing water, a significant element in the environment of the department. Unusual in the urban context, the blue colour shall allow a quick and distinct identification of the General Council.
- a textual design full of meaning, made of a reference to the territory in bold capital letters ("VAL MARNE", in the MAC/VAL font designed for the use of the Musée d'Art Contemporain du Val-de- Marne), of a cursive "de" forming the transition between VAL and MARNE and emphasizing the human dimension of the authority, and of "Conseil général" in italics (Myriad font), emphasizing the public and institutional dimension of the institution.

The colour specifications for cyan blue are:
Pantone Process Cyan;
RVB 0 157 224;
RAL 230 60 40;
Quadri Cyan 100%;
HTML #009de0.
