Flag of Marneuli

The flag and arms of Marneuli are prescribed by Decree No. 7/3, adopted on 15 April 2009 by the Municipal Council.

The flag of Marneuli is horizontally divided red-white-red-white (3:1:1:1) with three yellow lions in canton.
The flag is a "rectification" and simplification of the municipal arms, which are "Per fess bowy [?], 1. Gules three lions or per fess, 2. Argent a crenellated bridge gules ensigned with a cross patty gules of the same. The shield surmounted by a three-towered mural crown argent fimbriated sable. Under the shield a scroll argent fimbriated sable charged with the name of the town in Georgian capital letters sable."

The colors of the arms are based on historical documents from the 18th-19th centuries, especially the two atlases published in 1745-1746 by Prince Vakhushti (Vakhushti Batonishvili, 1696-1757). The lions represent Lomtagora, an old settlement mentioned in sources from the 12th century; the lions are also a symbol of courage, power and generosity. The "bowy" division of the arms stands for the mountains. The bridge is a symbolic representation of the "Red Bridge" (photo) built at the border with Azerbaijan.
