Translated from <www.holon.muni.il>
"The sand dunes apeear also on the emblem of the city of Holon side by side with stone houses and sycamore tree (Jumas in Arabic) which was ,in the past, typical for this area. (Even today one can find sycamore trees in Holon: At the enerance to the city, at Qiryat Ben-Gurion and other sites).
At the top of the emblem there is a carved inscription: "in spite of and despite everything" which is taken from a poem by the poet David Shim'oni and is an exspression of the decisive decision of the first inhabitants, to built a city in Israel, despie of the hardships of those days, the bloody events, lack of labour and livelihood, solitude and financial difficulties.
The emblem was choosed in 1946 by a public committee of three members: Dr. Eli'ezer Mansbach, Elihu Lustig (Ronen) and Uzi'el Sholdinger (Shalev). The emblem was choosed from several proposals that were handed to the committee. The emblem was designed by Mrs. Berlin, a famous architect in those days.
This information was taken from the book "Holon - History" by Rami Ah'aroni and the booklet "From Sands [Holot] to Holon" issued by the Municipality of Holon.".
