National Flag and Jack

On the occasion of our Telangana State formation day (29th new state of India), I got an opportunity to make the biggest Indian national flag with the dimensions of 72 feet x 108 feet. Flag weight 63 KGs. Flag pole height 295 feet. The flag unfurled on 2nd June, 2016 at Sanjeevaiah Park, Hyderabad, Telangana state. Being vexillologists this is indeed a great honor and a happy moment. Hence, I’m attaching a few pictures and videos of the flag which is hoisted in Hyderabad.
It would be a privilege to share this information with all the vexillologists across the globe.

20 M Rupees for Biggest Tricolour

DC Correspondent
Hyderabad, May 12 [2016]
The Telangana state government will be spending nearly R2 crore (20 million) to set up India's largest national flag on the tallest mast at Sanjeevaiah Park alongside the Hussainsagar. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will unveil the flag on June 2, second anniversary of the state's formation. The government has sanctioned R1.96 crore for the project. The R1.32 crore contract to instal the flag has been awarded to the Kolkata-based Skipper Construction Company. The rest of the money will be spent on civil works.

For now, the 66-feet by 99-feet flag which stands on a 293-feet mast at Ranchi holds the record.

The CM has directed officials to set up a taller pole than the one at Ranchi, at 303 feet. The number (3+3) adds to Mr Rao's lucky number six.

The responsibility of supervising the works has been entrusted to the roads and buildings department.

R&B principal secretary Sunil Sharma said. "There are four components in this project. The major work is construction of the 303-feet mast, and the other components include construction of the pillar base and other civil works. We are aiming to complete the project in two weeks."

Khammam man gets honour of sewing the largest flag

T Formation Day to witness largest Tiranga Jhanda

Adepu Mahender

Khammam: This June 2 will be a special day not just because that it is the second anniversary of the Telangana State Formation Day, but the day is set to witness unfurling of the largest national flag ever hoisted on the Indian soil. A flag with dimensions of 72-feet-by-108-feet is being stitched by 53-year-old Kambhampati Sanjeev Rao, a native of Khammam and an accounts officer in DRDA Department, Nalgonda.

It may be mentioned here that the government has plans to hoist a largest national flag at Sanjeevaiah Park in Hyderabad to mark Formation Day celebrations. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is slated to hoist the flag on June 2.

Impressed by Sanjeev Rao's passion for study of flags for which he attended at least 11 international conferences in countries like USA, UK, Germany, France, Japan, Argentina, etc., the Chief Minister has gave him the opportunity to stitch the largest flag. The earlier record of the flag size was 66-feet-by-99-feet hoisted at a height of 293-feet on January 23 this year.

Rao, who himself is stitching the flag from May 21, said that he will be ready with the flag by May 29. Sanjeev Rao has claimed that he is the only person to have 20 years experience in the field of flag research.

He also shared a few details about the flag. The flag will be unfurled only with the help of a motorised mechanism due to its gigantic size. The flag which is made of polyester cloth could not withstand the atmospheric pressure for more than two months.

The height of the flag mast is 301 feet and is manufactured in Kolkata. The flag mast is being ferried to Hyderabad and is expected to reach by May 28.

Thanking the Chief Minister for giving the opportunity, Sanjeev Rao also expressed gratitude to the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) CEO Anita Ramachandran for encouraging him. Meanwhile, the construction of flag mast at the Sanjeevaiah Park hit a roadblock with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) raising objection over the height flag mast as it was close to Begumpet Airport. However, it is learnt that State government has been pursuing the matter with the Central government to get permission.
