Introduction

A flag plucked from Haalmeijer & Scholten's "Van Nievelt, Goudriaan & Co's Stoomvaart Maatschappij (Nigoco)" (1995) is that of "Compagnie Libanaise de Navigation Côtière et d' Outre-Mer SAL," seated at Beirut.

This short-lived "Nigoco" (Netherlands) subsidiary, the name of which means "Lebanese Coastal and Overseas Navigation Co.," existed between 1966 and 1970. Four small ships were flagged out to avoid taxes and to be able to pay lower salaries to less people (crews of eleven instead of eighteen). These ships had names beginning with "Lebanese–" and ending with "–Star," "–Sky," "–Wave," and "–Wind."

Description

The house flag is obviously derived from that of Van Nievelt, Goudriaan (archivexillum): blue field bearing a thin red saltire-with-serifs and a white five-pointed star in the centre.
