's-Heer Abtskerke Coat of Arms

['s-Heer Abtskerke Coat of Arms] by Jarig Bakker, 22 Jul 2004, after Sierksma's Gemeentewapens van Nederland (1960).

Granted 31 Jul 1817

This is also the coat of arms of the family Perponcher Sedlnitzky, probably the Lords (Heeren) of this municipality. In 1949 the spurs were replaced by arrows.
Jarig Bakker, 22 Jul 2004

Ir. A.J. Beenhakker observed: the coat of arms of the municipality doesn't have a bow and arrow in its second and third quarter (as written in the official blazon), or stirrups, as in the Koffie Hag Album. No, they are wolf traps, a Polish heraldic element. (in Czech this is called "zavinuta strela" (wrapped up arrow?) - probably derived from ancient Sarmatian emblems, named "tamga"; Polish: "rogacina rozluczona". The lords of 's-Heer Abtskerke in the first half of the 19th century were the family Perponcher Sedlnitzky, and their arms appears on the municipal arms. According to Rietstap the arms of that family were: "aux 1 et 4 de gu. à trois colonnes d'arg., rangé sur un socle du même; au chef d'azur, ch. de trois étoiles d'or (Perponcher); aux 2 et 3 de gu. à un fer de flèche d'arg."

"Fer de fleche" is an arrowhead, more commonly called "fer de lance" (spearhead). "Fer" is iron, but the word is also used for different iron tools or the metallic part of tools :
"Fer de charrue" : a ploughshare;
"Fer a cheval": a horseshoe;
"Fer a friser": curling tongs;
"Fer a gaufrer": a goffering iron;
"Fer a repasser": an iron (for ironing clothes);
"Fer a souder": a soldering iron;
etc..

's-Heer Abtskerke flagproposal

['s-Heer Abtskerke flagproposal] by Jarig Bakker, 20 Oct 2004
proposal; design: Ir. J.A. Beenhakker, c.1970

Ir. J.A. Beenhakker designed a new flag c. 1970:
Three horizontal stripes red - blue - red with on red three 6-pointed yellow stars distributed equally.
The three stars represented the three settlements in the (former) municipality: 's-Heer Abtskerke, Sinoutskerke, and Baarsdorp.
It is unknown whether Ir. Beenhakker's design has been considered by the municipal council.
