Blazon: I blått tre motstøtende sølv spisser fra hjørnene. (1982)

In English: Azure three piles argent conjoined in pall.
Approved by the royal resolution of 19 February 1982 and again on 13 May 1983 after a drawing by Einar H. Skjervold.
The second approval recognized that it was approved before and only changes the blazon text. I guess the state herald found a better wording and seemed way too much displeased with the previous, so much so to bother the King to approve it again - but really there seems to be no explanation of why it was done available on line.
The design was nicknamed "meeting of ways" (vegamot) representing three important roads that meet in Oppdal, one from south going over the Dovre mountain, one from Nordmøre from west and one from Trondheim from north(east). - thus making Oppland an important spot. [c2j87] notes that such design was recorded in Norwegian heraldry already in 1324 in a seal of Eiliv Amundsson Stakk, which they depict.
