Westgate Transport Ltd. When the NZ ports were privatized in 1988 that in New Plymouth being the main "gateway" on the North Island adopted the name of Wetsgate Transport Ltd. The roughly 1x2 white flag had a panel in the hoist [see image of Westgate panel] of a teal or dull green with narrow black rings and a cross of red with half arrow heads [left side only]. The black rings were thicker in an uneven shape on the fly side, and this darkening represented the Taranaki coast line against the lighter sea with the "cross" the main compass points and is best appreciated at a distance. In the fly on the flag was the black legend "Westgate". The flag was sighted and photographed in 1994.

Westport Coal Co. Ltd. began shipowning in 1883 withdrawing 1887 and then re-entering 1903 until 1940. Sea Breezes 6/1979 shows a red flag with the black letters "WCC" whereas The Log 11/1987 gives a red flag with a narrow black saltire and the white letters "WCCL". If both are correct then presumably the latter was the replacement.
