About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of white and red.

Coat of arms

Shield Vert, between two fesses Or a 6-spokes wheel Argent, the upper fess is charged with an inescutcheon Gules bearing a Maltese Cross Argent, flanked by two weathercocks, the lower fess is charged with a fleur-de-lis Azure. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and yellow scroll with inscription in black initials "PEDRÓGÃO - TORRES NOVAS".
Meaning:
Wheel and green colour are representing the commune's rural character. The fleur-de-lis is alluding to two historical persons named Alvin (no further details given). The weathercocks are representing the churches of Pedrógão ans Alqueidão. The inescutcheon is alluding to the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, aka Order of Malta and is representing the settlement Adofreire, which had been founded by a friar of the Order of Malta. It might also allude to St. John the Baptist, name giver of the order and patron saint of the commune.

Pedrógão Commune is one of the ten communes of the Torres Novas municipality (q.v.); it had 2037 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 39.4 km².
