The Church of the Nazarene is one of the largest evangelical Protestant
denominations in the US. In addition to its overseas missionary activities it is
also committed to the field of higher education, and there is a network of
Nazarene universities and colleges throughout the US. The church uses a number
of seals and logos in its ministry; these can be found at

One of the logos is used on a flag, or at the very least perhaps just a
flagoid. See the Nazarene Missions International flag at

The flag of the Church of the Nazarene was used in the Banner Parade at the
recent World Methodist Conference in 2001, held at Brighton, England. The
Nazarene flag depicts the church seal against a blue field. The Church of the
Nazarene does not have a regular practice of displaying a church flag. The first
flag approved for use was in the 1980s for Chaplaincy Ministries, an office
within the Nazarene International Headquarters. The head of Chaplaincy Services
at the time, Rev. Curt Bower, wanted a flag so that chaplains sworn into the
United States Armed Forces would have a flag of their denomination in the
background during this ceremony. The flag approved for that purpose by the
denomination's Board of General Superintendents (or bishops) was identical to
the one depicted in the attached photograph.
The Nazarene Archives does not have a simple color photograph of the flag being spread out. The attachment is cropped from a photo of the flag carried at Brighton. You will notice that there is a fold running through its center. The original this is cropped from was a live-action shot.
