Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staffs

[Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Joint Chiefs of Staff]

I've been in touch with Command Sergeant Major William Gainey, the first person to hold this new office, established in October 2005. This individual serves as the first "joint" enlisted advisor to the chairman of the JCS. While CSM Gainey is an Army NCO, future incumbents will come from the Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.

CSM Gainey informed me that a new rank title and insignia are under development. He also told me that a new positional flag should be approved in January 2006.

Divided from upper hoist to lower fly, light blue over white. In the center a shield device, like that on the Sergeant Major of the Army flag, but with the DOD eagle in the center, rather than the US Army eagle and star. With a gold fringe.
