They chose the colors of Artigas' Flag (blue, white and red) for the club's clothing, the emblem, and the flag. That is why the team is known as "tricolor". The flag is blue with a white diagonal, and the acronym of the club's name in red letters. The inspiration for this flag came from the Artigas' Flag. The Club Nacional de Football (Football National Club) was founded in May 14th 1899. It was born from the union of two previous teams: Uruguay Atletica Club and Montevideo Football Club. The team played its first game in June 18th 1899. Source: Club homepage.

The Club Nacional de Football or simply Nacional as it is called, is one of the two biggest football soccer teams from Uruguay. The other team is Peñarol. Both teams are big rivals. And the most famous football soccer game in Uruguay is Nacional Vs. Peñarol.
