Flags on Sails

National flags are occasionally seen as the spinnaker of a racing yacht (or similar), and of course, there is that well-known poster advertising the Marshall Plan after World War II.

Of course, at one point arms were placed on sails, rather than flags.

There appear to have been two versions of the Marshal Plan sails: One where the flags together form a single sail, catching the wind of the ERP; the other is All Our Colours to the Mast, with each flag a separate sail.

There's another image, similar to the Marshall Plan poster with the separate sails, but I can't recall what it pertains to at the moment. Other posters, by the way, had the flags as the wings of a mill, notches of a key, twigs in a nest, as well as forming clothes.
